It is said that Kano Judo came to finding ways and new techniques that would face the greatest students of Jujitsu. The truth is that adopted many of the techniques of Jiu Jitsu and also implemented new ones. Delimiting, however, the essential aim of the sport, besides the conformation of the human body and the formation of human character through spiritual and moral discipline, turned Judo from a new martial art, real lifestyle. In 1882 Jigoro Kano founded the Kadokan Judo slowly began to spread across Japan. The 1907 estimated to have been 10,000 athletes - members.
Yamashita in 1903 at the behest of Kano went to the US where spread Judo educating even US President Theodor Roosevelt. Despite the physiological changes, the basic rules of Judo remain the same as the basic philosophy of Judo father who wanted a new martial art, a sport, with the fewest possible injuries. For thirty years, Jigoro Kano devoted his life to the dissemination and spread of the sport. The main partner of Baron Pierre de Kouperten had an active role in the Olympic Movement, being a member of the ILO. The Jigoro Kano did not see alive (he died in 1938), the entrance of Judo in the Olympics (1964 in Tokyo) or the founding of the International Federation (1951), which had proposed the same since the early ' 30. In fact it was May 12th, 1951 when in a room of Chinese Restaurant Choy 's in London, nine countries signed the founding declaration of the World Federation. Currently, the International Judo Federation (IJF) has in the records of more than 180 member countries.
Earlier, in 1948, he founded the European Judo Federation and in 1951 held the first European Championship. The introduction of categories directly influenced the development of Judo, and eight years before the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 in the same city held the first World Championship with participation of 31 athletes from 21 countries. In 1980 it was held for the first time, the World Championships and for women. Twelve years later, in 1992 in Barcelona Judo women included in the Olympic Games program. In Greece Judo appeared shortly after World War II. In 1977 he was officially recognized as a sport and joined the Athletics Federation and in 1985 founded the Greek Judo Federation, which currently has more than 150 unions with a force of 6,000 athletes.
